Online poker tournaments legal in California?

Poker players from US are accepted in online tournaments by offshore gambling operators UB PokerBodog, or the relative newcomer Aced Poker.  However, due to US legislation on online gambling, most online casinos are closed for US players.

There are good indicators that the status of online poker is about to change in California. Thanks to Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, gambling is rapidly expanding in this state and the last week’s start of the Senate Governmental Organization Committee informal hearing is to determine the status of online poker.

Organizations related to gambling addiction and some tribal leaders are going to oppose any changes, but there are plenty of proponents of regulating the online poker tournaments, and the government is looking at the potential tax windfall.
