The fact of the matter is, too many players go all in at the wrong time, and they lose for it. And they don’t’ just lose a few chips, or the pot, they lose the tournament. They buying is gone, it’s all over. It’s almost amazing when it happens. One moment you are deep in the tournament, the next, you are stunned wondering what the hell happened as you drag your sorry self outta there.

The Dangers Of All In Poker Tournament Strategies

Poker tournament strategies requiring a lot of all ins, or relying on all ins to double up in order to get ahead, are not the cream of the crop. They are dangerous. Sure, they might win sometimes and you might get lucky with them, but over the long term they just don’t have what it takes to survive.

These random events are unavoidable. But a more effective way to win with all ins is to not have to go to the showdown. If you get your opponents to fold you can win without as much risk.

When the pot is getting big that is when you want to be going all in. Once the pot has grow to about half the average sized stack at the table that is the time to go in. Of course you must definitely think you have the best hand. If you think you have the best hand and the pot is growing that big go for it. Most times your opponents will fold.

The effectiveness of this will rely on your own skill of knowing if you have the nuts or not, but even for the newest of players it is quite easy to realise when you are a shoe in to win.

Knowing your MZone in a poker tournament is going to give you a calculated advantage over your opponents, but it won’t save you from bad beats, better players, and mental errors on your part. However, there is a way that (knowing) your MZone can help you make better decisions that will ease your decision making process and thus your second guessing.

The concept is called the Game Critical Intersect or GCI for short. What the GCI does for your game is somewhat like having a little coach sitting behind you and telling you if you should be involved in a hand or not. It can eliminate huge losses from bluffs that donâ??t work, get you off of dangerous boards, and make you more sensitive to position plays. Not only that, the GCI can make your all in decisions much easier especially when you are getting near the money.

Here is how it works. There are five color zones of M you can have and I like to divide them between two good mzones that are named yellow and green, and 2 weak mzones that are named red and orange.

Being in one of the good mzones of yellow and green you have the ability to have a more flexible game allowing you to make moves at pots, steal blinds, and see lots of hands in late position for cheap. This is because you ratio of stack to the blinds and antes are at least comfortable at this point. We can call this situation a PLUS stack, where you are likely above the average stack size of the hold’em tournament.

In other words, as your stack depletes in a tournament, the more your game should open up. You would easily let your red or orange stack ride on top pair, but with a PLUS stack you want more than that if it means a huge hit to your tournament hopes.

This is just one of the ways knowing your mzone allows for better decision making and adds a clear advantage to your game strategies.

If you are new to poker, or to online poker, there are a few basic tips that, if kept in mind, will drastically improve your chances of success:

Keep It Simple Initially: Chances are, you will play lower limit games initially. In order to beat poor players here, you need to outplay poor opponents. This is far simpler than beating good players at higher limits. Unlike the good player, the poor player won’t pay attention to your cards. If you play a straightforward game (play tight, no fancy bluffs, bet aggressively when you probably have the best hand, and utilize pot odds for your drawing decisions), your chances of winning are good. Also remember that a starter level poor player is not thinking too deeply, so there is no point in attempting fancy plays.

Think and Evaluate: Unlike blackjack, there is no optimal strategy in every situation for poker. So remember that your online poker strategy will have to be situational, and not preplanned. Situational judgment skills come with practice and learning from your ‘trial and error’ efforts. Review your game after the event, see what you could have done differently, analyze why you erred, and internalize the lessons.
